Replica Datte, Koi wo Suru follows Sunao, a girl whose substitute is summoned on the days when she is sick or simply does not feel like going to school. The replica was born into the world when Sunao wished for someone to take her place, and because of that wish, no one knows she exists. Even so, she continues to act as Sunao's stand-in and tries to do her best whenever she is called upon. Her quiet routine begins to change when she starts talking with Sanada, one of her classmates. The two slowly become friends, and before long he notices that she is different from the original Sunao, making him the first person to realize the truth. Wanting to keep her identity safe, she asks him to speak to her only when her hair is half-up, and Sanada respects that condition as they spend more time together. As their bond deepens, she begins to understand that her feelings for Sanada are different from simple friendship, yet she cannot help wondering what will become of her if a replica falls in love.
