Paranoia Agent

Paranoia Agent unfolds in Musashino City, where the quiet routine of everyday life is shattered by the appearance of Shounen Bat, a mysterious assailant who races through town on rollerblades and attacks people with a golden baseball bat. His first victim, the well-known yet timid character designer Tsukiko Sagi, quickly becomes the focus of suspicion, especially after it seems as if she may have staged the incident herself. The only presence that comforts Tsukiko is Maromi, her anthropomorphic pink stuffed animal, and even that fragile refuge does little to calm the growing unease around her. As Shounen Bat's attacks continue, detectives Keiichi Ikari and Mitsuhiro Maniwa begin to investigate the truth behind the figure and the mounting panic spreading through the city. More people are drawn into the legend of the golden bat, and rumors ripple through adults and children alike until fear becomes its own contagion. Paranoia Agent follows the unraveling boundary between rumor and reality, as Musashino City descends deeper into suspicion and the detectives struggle to determine whether they are chasing a man, a myth, or something far more elusive.
