Paprika unfolds in a near-future world where dreams can be entered, recorded, and even altered through the experimental DC Mini, a device developed by a research lab led by Atsuko Chiba and the gifted technician Kosaku Tokita. By day, Atsuko works as a meticulous scientist; in the dream world, she becomes Paprika, a more playful presence who helps guide patients through their subconscious and uncover the memories and fears buried beneath.
But the DC Mini also makes the border between waking life and the dreamscape dangerously fragile. When the prototype is stolen, strange incidents begin spreading through the lab and beyond, leaving scientists, patients, and investigators caught in a wave of surreal disturbances. Atsuko and Tokita must race to recover the device before it is used to manipulate minds and turn dreams into a weapon.
Working alongside Officer Konakawa, one of the people receiving experimental therapy, they follow the trail of the thief through shifting realities, where desire, guilt, and imagination collide. As the dream world grows more unstable, Paprika becomes a tense battle to preserve identity itself before the subconscious overwhelms the waking world.
