In No Game No Life, sixteen sentient races inhabit Disboard, a world overseen by Tet, the One True God. The lowest of the sixteen is Imanity, a human race with no affinity for magic. Because every dispute is settled through simple games under absolute rules, humankind seems to have no way out of its predicament—until two outsiders arrive from Earth.
Those outsiders are stepsiblings Sora and Shiro, two inseparable shut-ins who dominate various online games under the username "Blank." Notorious on the internet, they believe that life is merely another dull game. After responding to a message from an unknown user, they are suddenly transported to Disboard, where the mysterious sender reveals himself as Tet and explains the world's rules. Once Tet leaves, Sora and Shiro begin searching for information and a place to stay, a path that leads them to Elkia, Imanity's only remaining kingdom.
There they meet Stephanie Dola, an emotional girl vying for the kingdom's sovereignty. Desperate to regain her father's throne, she lacks the skill to achieve that goal alone. Moved by her motivation and passion, Sora and Shiro decide to help Stephanie get Elkia back on its feet while pursuing their own ambition to rule the enigmatic realm. As Blank starts overturning Disboard's hierarchy through games, their rise draws in figures such as Jibril and expands their fight from one kingdom's survival to Imanity's place among the sixteen races.
