Needless unfolds in 2130, in a Japan devastated by World War III, where the scars of the conflict remain visible in vast contaminated regions called Blackspots. Former cities and stretches of countryside inside these sealed zones were ravaged by the fallout, and many of the people left behind changed into superpowered beings known as Needless. Some can alter their shape, others wield fire, and others can even manipulate gravity. Japan is split between the sealed ruins and the fragile order outside them, a divide that keeps the country under constant strain.
At the center of the series is Adam Blade, a fake priest whose regenerative abilities and overwhelming strength make him one of the most dangerous Needless alive. After meeting Cruz Schild, a boy trying to survive the chaos of Blackspot life, Adam becomes involved in a widening battle that also draws in Eve Neuschwanstein and other powerful fighters. Their path leads them into direct conflict with Simeon, a sinister organization that exploits the ruined world and the abilities born from it. Amid contamination, sealed-off territory, violent rivalries, survival, and revenge, Needless follows Adam and his allies as they fight through a country that never truly escaped the war and search for a way to restore peace to Japan.
