Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier unfolds aboard a long-range emigrant fleet built to keep humanity alive after earlier wars with alien powers. Life on the Macross Frontier fleet mixes ordinary routines with constant military readiness, and that fragile balance collapses when high school student Alto Saotome is caught in a sudden attack during a concert by the superstar Sheryl Nome. In the chaos he crosses paths with Ranka Lee, a young girl whose life is also about to change, and is drawn into combat in one of the variable fighters that define the Macross universe. As Alto becomes involved with the private military company S.M.S. Skull Squadron, Macross Frontier ties aerial dogfights, civilian life, and romance to a larger struggle over survival and first contact. Music remains central to the conflict: songs lift morale, shape public feeling, and become inseparable from the fleet's attempts to face an unknown enemy without losing its humanity. Through Alto, Ranka, and Sheryl, the series returns to the franchise's recurring tensions between technological progress and the destruction of war, personal bonds and military duty, and the hope that cultural exchange can succeed where weapons fail.
