Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World unfolds in a world where Astral power flows through gifted individuals known as astral mages. Fearing the devastation that this power can cause, the Empire hunts and persecutes those who manifest it, pushing the displaced mages to establish the Nebulis Sovereignty and continue a bitter war that has lasted for more than a century. The story centers on Iska, a talented knight who is imprisoned after freeing a witch from captivity. One year later, the Empire unexpectedly releases him with a dangerous condition: he must track down and eliminate the feared Ice Calamity Witch. Iska accepts in the hope that ending the conflict might help bring peace to both sides. The witch he is ordered to hunt, Aliceliese "Alice" Lou Nebulis XI, has the same goal. Determined to see the war end, Alice is willing to defy her nation and everything she has been taught if it means forcing the Empire toward peace. As their paths cross again and again, the two enemies are drawn into a bond that grows beyond duty, coincidence, or propaganda. In a war built on fear, inherited hatred, and impossible loyalties, they keep reaching for a future without struggle, woe, or pain.
