Hyouka follows high school freshman Houtarou Oreki, a boy determined to live a gray, low-effort life and conserve as much energy as possible. His quiet routine ends when his older sister, Tomoe, orders him to help save the memberless Classics Club from disbanding. When Oreki reaches the clubroom, he discovers that fellow first-year Eru Chitanda has already joined, and her bright curiosity quickly pulls him into the club against his own better judgment.
What begins as an inconvenience slowly becomes the center of Oreki's school life. As the Classics Club's membership grows to four with the addition of his friends Satoshi Fukube and Mayaka Ibara, the group spends its days untangling the small mysteries that drift through everyday life. Guided by Chitanda's insatiable curiosity, they investigate seemingly trivial incidents, half-forgotten rumors, and odd little puzzles that reveal how much tension and charm can hide inside ordinary days. Hyouka blends understated humor, careful observation, and character-driven drama as Oreki is forced to engage with the people and questions around him.
