Hitsugi no Chaika

Hitsugi no Chaika follows Tooru Acura, a former saboteur adrift after the war, as he tries to make sense of a world that no longer needs his skills. His life changes when he meets Chaika Trabant, a white-haired mage who carries a coffin on her back and is traveling across the continent to gather the scattered remains of her father so she can give him a proper burial. Tooru and his adoptive sister Akari choose to help her, and the three are drawn into the ruins, rivalries, and unstable borders left behind by the Gaz Empire. Five years after the Taboo Emperor Arthur Gaz fell in the capital at the hands of the warriors later known as the Eight Heroes, the continent is being held together by the Council of Six Nations. Even so, fear of the empire's legacy lingers everywhere, and Chaika's journey quickly attracts the attention of Albéric Gillette and the Kleeman Agency, who are ordered to capture her before the remnants tied to the old war can upset the fragile peace. As Tooru, Akari, and Chaika move from battlefield to battlefield, they face political intrigue, buried grief, and the question of how far they are willing to go to protect a mission that may be larger than any of them.
