Given follows Mafuyu Satou, a withdrawn high school student who keeps a Gibson guitar tightly clutched as he leaves his dark apartment and tries to get through another ordinary day. During a quiet moment on the gymnasium staircase, he crosses paths with fellow student Ritsuka Uenoyama, who scolds him for letting the guitar's strings rust and break. Recognizing that Uenoyama knows the instrument well, Satou begs him to repair it and to teach him how to play. Uenoyama eventually agrees and brings him into a jam session with his bandmates, bassist Haruki Nakayama and drummer Akihiko Kaji.
Satou's voice is strikingly beautiful, and it quickly fills Uenoyama with the determination to make Satou the band's lead singer. Though reticent at first, Satou accepts after an emotional meeting with an old friend. With the support of his new friends, he begins learning how to play guitar while also coming to terms with the mysterious circumstances that led him to own it in the first place. As their music starts to connect them, the band becomes a space where hesitation, memory, and emotion slowly turn into something shared.
