In Boku dake ga Inai Machi, Satoru Fujinuma is a detached 29-year-old manga artist who experiences Revival, a strange ability that sends him a few minutes back in time whenever tragedy is about to strike. He has used it to avert accidents and save lives, but one sudden catastrophe turns his world upside down when he is wrongly accused of murdering someone close to him.
Revival then hurls Satoru back to 1988, 18 years into the past, where he must confront a childhood tragedy that may be tied to the case. He comes to believe the murder is connected to the abduction and killing of his classmate Kayo Hinazuki, a solitary and mysterious girl whose fate still hangs over the present. With no room for hesitation, Satoru tries to uncover what really happened in his old neighborhood, prevent Kayo’s death, and protect the people he cares about in the present, all while piecing together a chain of events that was never meant to be seen. As he reconnects with classmates and retraces the clues hidden around him, Satoru must balance the innocence of childhood with the urgency of a grown man who already knows what is at stake.
