In Dororo, the dying domain of samurai lord Daigo Kagemitsu becomes the site of a terrible bargain. Desperate for power, he renounces Buddha and makes a pact with 12 demons, who answer his prayers by restoring prosperity to his prefecture at an unthinkable cost. When his first son, Hyakkimaru, is born, the child has no limbs, no nose, no eyes, no ears, and not even skin—yet he still lives. Treated as the price of Daigo's ambition, the baby is cast into a river and forgotten.
He is saved by a medicine man, who equips him with prosthetics and weapons so he can survive and fend for himself. As Hyakkimaru grows, he cannot see, hear, or feel anything, but he learns that the demons who used him as a sacrifice can be slain, and that each death restores a stolen part of his body. For years he wanders alone through an unforgiving, demon-infested world, driven by the chance to reclaim what was taken from him. His solitary path changes when Dororo, an orphan boy and survivor in his own right, befriends him. Together, the unlikely pair fight for their survival and for a fragile sense of humanity as war, monsters, and Daigo's choices continue to shape the land around them.
