Dog Days unfolds in Flonyard, an alternate Earth where the inhabitants resemble humans but have the ears and tails of specific animals. There, the Republic of Biscotti, a kingdom of dog-like citizens, comes under attack from the feline forces of the Galette Leo Knights. To protect her people, Princess Millhiore summons a champion from another world: Cinque Izumi, an ordinary junior high student from Earth. Once he agrees to help, Cinque is entrusted with the sacred weapon Palladion and drawn into Flonyard’s unusual style of warfare, where battles are fought without casualties and function more like competitive events meant to raise money for the rival kingdoms.
As Cinque proves himself as Biscotti’s champion, he discovers that a summoned hero cannot simply be sent back home. Until the scientists of Biscotti can find a way to return him to Earth, he remains at Millhiore’s side, fighting for Biscotti while adapting to life as their hero. Across the wider Dog Days franchise, that bond between worlds expands beyond Cinque’s first campaign. Flonyard’s ritualized wars, festivals, and magical threats continue to draw him back, and other visitors from Earth, including Rebecca Anderson and Nanami Takatsuki, become involved with Biscotti and its neighboring realms.
