In Divine Gate, the legend of a world-shattering gate is told to children as a story about the merging of the living world, the heavens, and the underworld. In reality, the people born with elemental abilities from that union are known as Adapters, and the World Council keeps order by treating the Gate as little more than a myth. The Council also oversees a special academy where Adapters train to control their powers and prepare for the chaos surrounding the Gate.
Aoto is a teenage water user with an exceptional talent and a tragic past, but he repeatedly refuses the Council's invitation to join the academy until the energetic wind user Midori and the stubborn fire user Akane push him toward it. As Aoto, Midori, and Akane search for the truth, Divine Gate follows their attempt to reach the Gate itself and uncover what lies behind the legend. Their path leads them toward the World Council and its mysterious leader Arthur, while their own despair and the hidden schemes around them test whether they can trust one another long enough to face the truth of the worlds that were forced together.
