In Dungeon Meshi, adventuring knight Laios Touden leads a small party through a seemingly endless dungeon, a subterranean maze filled with dangerous monsters and precarious traps. Because advanced magic can resurrect explorers and let them learn from past mistakes, the group keeps pressing deeper despite repeated deadly setbacks. But when a powerful dragon eats Falin, Laios's spellcasting sister, she sends her brother and his companions back to the beginning, forcing them to find a way to save her before she is digested for good.
Strapped for cash and short on equipment, Laios resolves to fight his way back down into the dungeon and rescue Falin. Even so, some of his allies abandon the quest, leaving only the elven mage Marcille Donato and the halfling locksmith Chilchuck Tims at his side. With their money running out, the party faces the grim prospect of starving long before they can reach the dragon. Their fortunes shift when they meet Senshi, a dwarven warrior with a talent for cooking and safely eating defeated monsters.
With Senshi's culinary expertise, Laios and his companions struggle onward, surviving the dungeon one meal at a time while learning about gourmet dining—and each other—along the way.
