Dandadan follows Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura, nicknamed Okarun, two high schoolers whose opposite beliefs pull them into the same nightmare. Momo is convinced ghosts exist but laughs off aliens, while Okarun is the kind of boy whose UFO obsession makes him easy to dismiss. A debate that begins as a joke quickly turns into proof that both sides of the argument are real: urban legends, spirits, and extraterrestrial beings all come crashing into their everyday lives, leaving them with no safe place to return to.
As Momo and Okarun survive one bizarre encounter after another, each begins to awaken strange powers and to rely on the other’s strengths. What makes Dandadan work is the way that supernatural action and comedy stay tied to the pair’s tense, awkward chemistry, while hostile entities keep closing in and the fragile rhythm of ordinary teenage life becomes harder to protect. The series keeps widening the secret world around them, making it feel absurd, dangerous, and impossible to ignore.
