Cowboy Bebop unfolds in 2071, when humanity has expanded across the galaxy and filled other planets with settlements that feel both familiar and deeply lawless. Murder, drug use, theft, and desperation thrive in these new societies, and intergalactic outlaws are pursued by a growing number of ruthless bounty hunters.
Spike Spiegel and Jet Black move from one job to the next aboard the Bebop, trying to earn a humble living while carrying the weight of memories that never quite stay buried. Spike hides a violent past beneath his goofy, aloof exterior, while Jet keeps the ship together and deals with his own troubled history. Their crew gradually grows with the arrival of Faye Valentine, a beautiful con artist with her own agenda; Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV, an eccentric child with remarkable skills; and Ein, a bioengineered Welsh corgi whose presence rounds out the strange little family.
As the Bebop crew builds bonds and hunts a colorful cast of criminals across space, their routine is repeatedly shaken by a menace tied to Spike's past. A rival's maniacal plot keeps unfolding in the background, forcing Spike to confront the life he tried to leave behind and the family he has found aboard the ship. Between bounty work, old grudges, and uncertain loyalties, the crew must decide what matters most when the past finally comes calling.
