Black Lagoon follows salaryman Rokurou Okajima, whose ordinary life in a Japanese corporation ends when a business negotiation in Thailand goes disastrously wrong. Taken hostage by the Lagoon Company, a band of ruthless pirate mercenaries, he is left at their mercy when his managers refuse to pay his ransom. Instead of pleading for his life, Rokurou makes the shocking decision to join the crew that kidnapped him.
Now trapped in Roanapur, a dissolute port city where corruption, crime, and gunfire set the rules, Rokurou has to learn how to survive among smugglers, syndicates, and hired killers. The Lagoon Company survives by moving illegal cargo and chasing profit in a place where even a minor mistake can get someone killed, and Rokurou quickly finds himself repeatedly at odds with Revy, his brash, gunslinging colleague.
As he tries to leave his old corporate life behind, Rokurou is forced to make hard calls under pressure and adapt to a world that rewards cruelty. Caught between the crew's dangerous work, the city's violent underworld, and the need to keep whatever humanity he has left, he must decide how far he is willing to go to stay alive.
