Arakawa Under the Bridge follows Kou Ichinomiya, a wealthy young man who has spent his life refusing to owe anyone a favor, until a fall into the Arakawa River changes everything. He is rescued by Nino, a homeless girl living under the bridge, and in return for the life she saves, Kou is drawn into the riverside community and its bizarre everyday order. Surrounded by residents who live by their own unusual rules and habits, he finds himself trying to preserve his pride while learning how to survive in a place where normal social expectations barely apply.
The series turns that setup into a romantic comedy built on impossible normalcy. Under the bridge, ordinary routines become deadpan chaos, and Kou is constantly pushed to adapt to a world that rejects convention without apology. As he settles into the community, the growing bond between Kou and Nino becomes the emotional center of the story: her quiet intensity and carefree outlook pull him deeper into a life where absurdity, tenderness, romance, and social satire constantly overlap. Arakawa Under the Bridge balances its offbeat humor with a warm look at belonging, identity, and the strange comfort of people who choose to live outside the rules.
