Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio unfolds in a future where rising sea levels have left much of the world underwater. Seventeen years after the Fleet of Fog, a mysterious armada of advanced warships, seized control of the oceans and crushed the world’s navies, humanity is cut off from sea travel and forced to live under the shadow of a power it cannot match. The story follows Gunzou Chihaya, whose unexpected encounter with the submarine I-401 and its Mental Model, Iona, changes the balance of the conflict. Unlike the rest of the Fleet of Fog, Iona appears willing to side with humanity, and Gunzou joins forces with her aboard I-401 alongside a small crew of privateers known as Blue Steel.
As the campaign against the Fleet of Fog grows more dangerous, the series builds around tactical naval battles, shifting alliances, and the uneasy trust between humans and the Fleet of Fog. Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio blends science fiction and action with a focus on strategy, character dynamics, and the precarious hope that a single ship might challenge a force that has already crippled naval power across the globe.
