Biography
Survive Said The Prophet is a Tokyo-based Japanese rock band led by vocalist Yosh Morita, with Ivan Kwong and Tatsuya Kato on guitars, Yudai Kato on bass, and Sho Okada on drums. Since forming in 2011, the group has built a reputation for a heavy yet melodic sound that blends emo and post-hardcore intensity with a broader rock sensibility. Often shortened to SSTP, the band is known for emotional performances and for pushing beyond genre boundaries with each release.
From the start, Survive Said The Prophet moved quickly. The band released its self-titled digital EP worldwide soon after forming, and that early material drew attention within the Japanese music scene. That momentum led to support slots for international acts such as Soulja Boy and helped the group reach audiences across Asia. The band also appeared at festivals including Rock In Taichung in Taiwan and Silvermine Bay Music Festival in Hong Kong, sharing stages with acts such as Supper Moment, Dirty Loops, and FACT.
In 2013, the band took a new step by recording overseas in Hong Kong, which led to the singles "Miriam" and "Cocoon." By then, Survive Said The Prophet had already headlined more than 50 shows inside and outside Japan, and their final show in that run sold out with over 300 tickets. They made their debut in 2015 with the mini album Course Of Action, followed by a nationwide tour that closed at Shibuya Quattro. The band later signed with ZESTONE RECORDS, a label associated with acts such as Crossfaith, Architects, and letlive., and in 2016 released the sophomore record FIXED with Kris Crummett, who has also worked with Issues, Sleeping with Sirens, and Capture the Crown.
FIXED brought wider recognition, reaching No. 10 on the Japanese indie chart at Oricon and No. 12 on the Japanese rock chart at iTunes. That rise continued when the band was invited to open KNOTFEST JAPAN 2016, sharing the event with Slipknot, Deftones, Disturbed, Issues, and more. In 2017, the group returned to the studio with Kris Crummett for its third album, Wabi Sabi, released on August 2. The album reached No. 21 on the Japanese iTunes album chart, and as the band prepared to play the mountain stage at Summer Sonic 2017, Survive Said The Prophet continued to refine its sound and push toward a new scene.
