Spitz (スピッツ)

Spitz (スピッツ) is a Japanese rock band formed in Tokyo in 1987 by Masamune Kusano, Tetsuya Miwa, Akihiro Tamura, and Tatsuo Sakiyama. Kusano sings and plays guitar, Miwa plays guitar, Tamura plays bass, and Sakiyama plays drums. The lineup has remained intact since the group's early years. Their music is marked by melodic songwriting, clean guitar-centered arrangements, and Kusano's poetic, restrained lyrics. It blends pop accessibility with alternative rock sensibility. After an independent period, Spitz made its major-label debut on March 25, 1991, when Polydor Records released the single "ヒバリのこころ" and the album "スピッツ" on the same day. The band reached a wider audience in the 1990s, especially after the success of "ロビンソン" and the 1995 album "ハチミツ". It has also contributed to anime, including "Hi wo Mamoru (灯を護る)", the opening theme of "Spy x Family".
