SCANDAL

SCANDAL is a Japanese all-female pop rock band formed in Osaka in August 2006. The group consists of Haruna Ono on vocals and guitar, Tomomi Ogawa on vocals and bass, Mami Sasazaki on vocals and guitar, and Rina Suzuki on vocals and drums. From the beginning, the band shared lead vocals across the group in both recording and live performance. The four members began as music-loving high school friends who wrote and performed their own songs while balancing school life. Early live shows around Osaka and Kyoto were followed by street performances in Tokyo and Shiroten, Osaka. Those appearances brought wider attention, leading to a performance at Shibuya Club Asia and recording opportunities that moved SCANDAL from the indie scene toward the mainstream. SCANDAL plays pop rock built around catchy melodies. Its early releases performed strongly on Tower Records' charts and sold out in Japan. Overseas appearances on the Japan Nite US Tour 2008 and at Sakura-Con 2008 also brought the band to anime and J-pop audiences outside Japan. Its anime and game work includes "Shoujo S (少女S)," the tenth opening theme for Bleach; "HARUKAZE," another opening theme for Bleach; "Shunkan Sentimental (瞬間センチメンタル)," an ending theme for Fullmetal Alchemist; and "Start," the theme song for Star Ocean: Second Evolution.
