Biography

Rintarou, sometimes spelled Rintarou, Taro, or Rin, is the pseudonym of Hayashi Shigeyuki, a Tokyo-born Japanese animation professional who also worked under the name Kuruma Hino. The different names attached to his career reflect a long-standing presence in anime production and a profile that has been recognized in more than one context. Rintarou is known for his deep ties to the Japanese animation industry. He was a co-founder of Madhouse, one of Japan’s most influential animation studios, and a founding member of the Japanese Animation Creators Association (JAniCA). Those roles place him among the figures who helped shape the professional landscape around modern anime. His career is closely associated with the development of contemporary anime production and with the creative community that helped shape the medium in Japan. Rather than being defined by a single title or project, Rintarou’s legacy comes from the broader influence of his work, his affiliations, and the aliases under which he has been known. Because of these contributions, Rintarou remains a notable figure in anime history. He stands out not only for his individual credits, but also for his role in the institutions and creative environment that supported the growth of Japanese animation.
