Rie Fu is a Japanese singer-songwriter and musician from Tokyo whose work combines music with visual art. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, and later moved to Maryland in 1992, where she lived until 1995. During that period, she received piano lessons and found new inspiration that would later shape her creative path.
After returning to Japan, she completed her secondary education before continuing her studies in London. In July 2007, she graduated from Central Saint Martins, the college of the University of the Arts London, where she studied Fine Art Painting. That background remains an important part of her artistic identity, and she now does most of the art for, and in, her albums.
After learning guitar, Rie Fu soon began writing songs, developing a style that reflects both her musical training and her interest in painting. Her ability to move between sound and image gives her catalog a distinctive personal character.
One of her best-known songs, "Life is Like a Boat," became the ending theme for Bleach, connecting her name with anime music and introducing her work to a wider audience. Her career highlights the close relationship between songwriting, fine art, and anime-related exposure in modern Japanese music.
