Biography

PRINCESS PRINCESS was a Japanese all-female rock band formed in Tokyo in 1983. Emerging during Japan's 1980s band boom, the group developed a pop-rock sound built around guitar-driven arrangements, catchy choruses, emotional ballads, tight musicianship, and strong melodies. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, PRINCESS PRINCESS released a string of successful songs that became part of the era's mainstream Japanese rock. The band is especially remembered for songs such as "M" and "Diamonds". Its work also helped open doors for later female bands in Japan by demonstrating that an all-women rock group could achieve major commercial success. The song "Sekai de Ichiban Atsui Natsu" was later used as the ending theme for "Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!". PRINCESS PRINCESS disbanded in 1996, and its catalogue continues to be cited in Japanese rock retrospectives.
