Biography
PIERROT was a prominent Japanese visual kei rock band active from 1994 to 2006, known for their elaborate stage performances and complex, often dark, melodic sound. Formed in Nagano and originally known as Dizy-Lizy, the group solidified their iconic lineup in 1995 featuring vocalist Kirito, guitarists Jun and Aiji, bassist Kohta, and drummer Takeo. Their music, which evolved from aggressive punk influences to a more polished, atmospheric rock style, garnered significant attention, leading to their major debut in 1998. The band achieved mainstream success with hits such as "Kowareta Kokoro" and "Haruka," and contributed to the anime landscape with tracks like "Kimi no Kotoba," used as an ending theme for the series *Neo Ranga*.
Throughout their career, PIERROT released several influential albums, including their major debut 'FINALE,' which defined their artistic vision. Despite their disbandment in 2006, the members remained active in the music industry; Kirito, Kohta, and Takeo went on to form the band Angelo, while Aiji founded the duo LM.C and Jun established ALvino. PIERROT remains a significant act in the history of the visual kei movement, remembered for their conceptual approach to music and their lasting impact on the Japanese rock scene.
