Biography

Passepied is a Japanese pop-rock band formed in Tokyo in February 2009 by keyboardist Haneda Narita, who studied classical music at Tokyo University of the Arts; he composes the music and the vocalist writes the lyrics and draws the artwork. The name comes from "Passepied", the fourth movement of Debussy's Suite bergamasque, and the band's starting idea was to combine impressionist music with new wave and synth-pop. After a self-released record sold at its shows in 2010, Passepied released its first nationally distributed album, "Watashi Kaika Shita wa", in 2011 and made its major-label debut on unBORDE in June 2012 with "ONOMIMONO". It played a solo show at the Nippon Budokan in December 2015 and showed the members' faces in its artist photos for the first time in May 2016. The drummer left in 2017, and in 2020 the band announced its own label, NEHAN RECORDS, with Universal Music. It performed both themes of Kyoukai no Rinne: the opening "Ura no Ura (裏の裏)" and the ending "Toki no Wa (トキノワ)".
