ORANGE RANGE

ORANGE RANGE is a five-member Japanese band from Okinawa, formed in 2001. The group grew out of a band that NAOTO and KATCHAN had started after junior high school. YOH, HIROKI, RYO and YAMATO then joined, in that order, completing the six-member debut lineup. Before its big breakthrough, ORANGE RANGE played around 70 concerts a year between live houses and street performances in Okinawa City, at places such as 7thHeavenKoza. Its indie debut came on February 22, 2002 with the mini album 『オレンジボール』 through SPICE RECORDS. Its music combines rock, pop, hip-hop, ska and Okinawan elements. It also often relies on vocal layering, rapped verses, melodic choruses and rhythmic shifts. The jump to the major market came on June 4, 2003 with 「キリキリマイ」 on gr8! records, and that same year they achieved wide recognition with 「上海ハニー」. In 2004, 「ミチシルベ〜a road home〜」 became their first weekly number one on Oricon. That release opened a run of nine consecutive singles at the top of the charts, which lasted until 「チャンピオーネ」 in 2006. That period also saw the long-charting single "Hana (花)", which appeared on the chart for 52 weeks, and the album 『musiQ』, which sold more than 2.63 million copies and received the Artist of the Year award at the 19th Japan Gold Disc Awards. In anime, ORANGE RANGE performed "Viva Rock ~Japanese Side~" for Naruto, "*Asterisk (*～アスタリスク～)" for Bleach, "02~O-Two~ (02~ｵｰ･ﾂｰ~)" for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, "Shiawase Neiro (シアワセネイロ)" for Code Geass and "Hana (花)" for ReLIFE. In 2005, KATCHAN suspended his activities due to tenosynovitis in the base tendon of his left little finger and left the band later that same year. Since then, ORANGE RANGE has continued as a five-member lineup with support musicians. After leaving gr8! records, the group launched SUPER((ECHO))LABEL in 2010, partnered with SPEEDSTAR RECORDS from 2012 and returned to Sony Music Records for the 2025 CD single 『マジで世界変えちゃう5秒前』.
