OGRE YOU ASSHOLE is a Japanese band formed in 2001 and listed with 馬渕啓 among its members. The group is also closely associated with the unusual story behind its name. According to the account repeated by the band, they attended a Modest Mouse show while the American group was touring Japan, later ran into Eric Judy on the street, and asked him to name their band.
The story says Judy wrote "OGRE YOU ASSHOLE" on the drummer’s arm while drunk, turning a spontaneous joke into the band’s identity. That origin became part of the group’s public lore, and the name later caused confusion when another American band told them it was a reference to "Revenge of the Nerds." Years later, OGRE YOU ASSHOLE opened for Modest Mouse, although Eric Judy could not remember that happening, which only deepened the band’s long-running connection to the Modest Mouse anecdote.
