Oasis

Oasis is an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991, emerging from an earlier group called the Rain. The original lineup featured Liam Gallagher on vocals and tambourine, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on guitar, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan on bass guitar, and Tony McCarroll on drums and percussion. Liam's older brother Noel Gallagher later joined on lead guitar and vocals, completing the band's classic five-piece era until April 1995. Musically, Oasis became one of the defining names in British rock and Britpop, known for melodic guitar-driven songs, direct songwriting, and anthemic choruses. Their sound helped shape the international profile of 1990s UK rock, and the band built a strong reputation through both studio releases and live performances. By 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide and had achieved eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also received major industry recognition, including fifteen NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards, and six Brit Awards. Oasis was nominated for three Grammy Awards, entered the Guinness World Records book in 2010 for the "Longest Top 10 UK Chart Run by a Group" after an unprecedented run of 22 top 10 hits in the UK, and also held the Guinness World Record for being the most successful act in the UK between 1995 and 2005, spending 765 weeks in the top 75 singles and albums charts. Oasis is also relevant to anime listeners because "Falling Down," from the 2008 album Dig Out Your Soul, was used as the first opening theme for the 2009 anime Eden of the East. After Noel Gallagher left the band in 2009, the remaining members went on to form Beady Eye, which continued recording until 2014.
