May J. is a Japanese J-pop and pop singer from Yokohama, Japan. Born on June 20, 1988, she performs as May J. (メイ・ジェイ) and has built a career around her multilingual voice, with Japanese, English, and Persian among the languages she can use on stage and in media appearances. Her real name is May (Jamileh) Hashimoto (橋本 芽生), and her public image has often reflected her international family background: her father is from Kansai, while her mother has family ties to Iran, Russia, Spain, the UK, and Turkey.
