Masayoshi Yamazaki

Masayoshi Yamazaki (山崎将義, born December 23, 1971) is a Japanese singer-songwriter and guitarist from Kusatsu, Japan. Active since 1995, he works in j-pop and pop rock, with songwriting shaped by folk and blues and a largely guitar-driven sound. After pre-debut work in Tokyo, he signed with Polydor Records and made his major debut in September 1995 with the single "月明かりに照らされて." He followed it with "中華料理" and his first album アレルギーの特効薬 in 1996, and released "セロリ" later that year. In 1997 Yamazaki starred in the film 月とキャベツ, whose theme song "One more time, one more chance" became a long-running hit; his second album HOME later reached No. 4 on the Oricon album chart. The song reached a wider anime audience when it was used as the ending theme of Makoto Shinkai's "Byousoku 5 Centimeter." In February 2026, BOYNEXTDOOR's SUNGHO performed a remake of the song for the live-action 5 Centimeters per Second OST. In June 2026, Yamazaki's 30th-debut-anniversary project included a new release of Takuya Kimura's cover of "Serori" ("Celery"), with Yamazaki taking part in the release.
