Manami Kakudo (角銅真実)

Manami Kakudo (角銅真実) is a Japanese musician, percussionist, vocalist, and songwriter born in 1988 and associated with Nagasaki Prefecture. After studying percussion at Tokyo University of the Arts, she began working as a percussionist and expanded her solo activity from around 2016. She works with marimba, gamelan, and other percussion. Her music is built around a quiet, intimate approach to songwriting and performance, with delicate phrasing, carefully shaped arrangements, and a reflective atmosphere. In her solo work, she often emphasizes restraint, detail, the space between sounds, subtle melody, gentle textures, and patient development. As a vocalist, she favors mood and expression over spectacle, with finely balanced instrumentation that leaves room for the voice. Her experimental practice also uses music boxes, cassette tape players, and everyday objects. Kakudo released her first album, "Ya Chaika", on an independent label in 2018. In 2019, she made her first appearance at Fuji Rock Festival under her own name. She then issued her major-debut album "oar" through Universal Music in January 2020. She later worked on the TV anime Kujima Utaeba Ie Hororo, creating its original soundtrack and performing the ending theme "Hororo Shouyou (ほろろ逍遥)".
