King Gnu

King Gnu is a Japanese band based in Tokyo that began in 2013 as Srv.Vinci, a project formed around Daiki Tsuneta with musicians including Shun Ishiwaka. After member changes, the group settled into its current four-member lineup in 2015: Daiki Tsuneta (vocals, guitar), Satoru Iguchi (vocals, keyboards), Kazuki Arai (bass), and Yu Seki (drums). It adopted the name King Gnu in 2017. Tsuneta is the band’s main songwriter and leads much of its arranging, and the group describes its approach as "Tokyo New Mixture Style," combining rock, pop, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and J-POP, often with key changes and string arrangements. King Gnu made its major-label debut on Ariola Japan with 'Sympa' on January 16, 2019, and followed it with 'CEREMONY' in 2020. The band later became closely associated with anime through songs including 'Prayer X' for Banana Fish and multiple themes for Jujutsu Kaisen, among them 'Ichizu (一途)', 'Sakayume (逆夢)', 'SPECIALZ', and 'AIZO'; it has also provided opening themes for Ranking of Kings and a theme song for Tokyo Revengers. Its lyrics often address urban existentialism, identity, and the human experience. In live performance, King Gnu has sold out dome tours, headlined major festivals across Japan, staged 'King Gnu Live at TOKYO DOME' in 2022 and 'King Gnu Stadium Live Tour 2023 CLOSING CEREMONY' in 2023, then mounted 'King Gnu Dome Tour THE GREATEST UNKNOWN' and its first overseas one-man tour, 'King Gnu Asia Tour THE GREATEST UNKNOWN', in 2024, followed by 'CEN+RAL TOUR' in 2026.
