Biography

King Gnu is a Tokyo-based Japanese band formed in 2013, originally known as Srv.Vinci. The quartet consists of Daiki Tsuneta (vocals, guitar), Satoru Iguchi (vocals, keyboards), Kazuki Arai (bass), and Yu Seki (drums). The band is highly celebrated for their 'Tokyo New Mixture Style,' a distinctive fusion of rock, pop, jazz, and hip-hop elements that defies conventional genre boundaries. Their sound is characterized by complex, rich instrumentation, sophisticated arrangements led by Tsuneta's visionary production, and Iguchi’s distinctively soaring, emotive vocal delivery. After rebranding as King Gnu in 2017, the band achieved massive commercial success and critical acclaim with albums like 'Sympa' (2019) and 'CEREMONY' (2020), the latter of which became a landmark release in the Japanese music industry. They gained significant international recognition through their contributions to high-profile anime series, most notably providing the iconic opening themes for 'Jujutsu Kaisen' and 'Ranking of Kings', as well as the 'Tokyo Revengers' theme song, which solidified their status as a cultural phenomenon. Beyond their anime contributions, King Gnu is recognized for their introspective, poetic lyrics that delve into themes of urban existentialism, identity, and the human experience. Their ability to balance mainstream pop appeal with experimental, avant-garde production has made them one of the most influential acts in contemporary Japanese music, consistently selling out dome tours and headlining major festivals across Japan.
