Hiromi Iwasaki is a Japanese singer from Fukagawa, Japan, born on November 12, 1958. Her younger sister Yoshimi Iwasaki is also a singer.
Active since 1975, Iwasaki debuted on Victor Entertainment and built her career in idol kayō, J-pop, and kayōkyoku. She emerged from the mid-1970s idol era, and her second single, "Romance," became a major hit. From there, she established a long mainstream career through recordings, television appearances, and live performances. Her work has been associated with a clear tone, controlled phrasing, and an emotionally direct singing style.
She remained active as Japanese pop changed in the decades that followed. In 1981 she received the Silver Prize at the Tokyo Music Festival for "Koimachigusa," and in 1982 "聖母たちのララバイ" became one of her biggest hits. Alongside her broader pop career, she also sang "Boku no Best Friend e (ぼくのベストフレンドへ)," the ending theme for Pokémon, linking her work to anime music as television themes became an increasingly visible part of Japanese popular culture.
