HAL

HAL is a female Japanese manga artist and doujin creator associated with the circle Goshujinsama no Omochabako. Based in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, she is known for drawing adult manga for Comic Masyo and Comic Shingeki, alongside earlier doujinshi works connected to the Touhou Project and the Final Fantasy Tactics universe. She made her professional debut in May 2012 with the one-shot Meshi no Tane, following her work in doujinshi. That background helped establish the tone of her career, which moves between commercial magazine publication and self-published projects while keeping the same intense, uncompromising style. Her stories often contain depictions of extreme cruelty, violence, pregnancy, and death. Because of that, her manuscripts are not always accepted as submitted and sometimes require revisions from editors. In the back cover of Kairakuen: Buta Ika na Watashi, she explains how her editor-in-chief was displeased with some of the grotesque scenes in Fondness Doll, and the sequel was released as doujinshi because it could not be published in a magazine. HAL is married and gave birth to a son in September 2014. After childbirth, she was asked by a midwife—who did not know the kind of manga she writes—whether she would use the experience of giving birth in her new manga. Her answer was an immediate "Yes."
