GLIM SPANKY is a Japanese rock band from Nagano Prefecture centered on vocalist and rhythm guitarist Remi Matsuo and lead guitarist Hiroki Kamemoto. Originally formed in 2007 as a quartet, the group became a duo in February 2010 and has since built a reputation for a retro-minded sound that balances raw guitar work with a strong classic-rock identity.
The band's name comes from Matsuo's interest in Celtic culture and fantasy literature. She read a book describing a goblin's "glim" and added "spank" to express their "aggressive drive towards the music industry." That origin reflects the band's character: imaginative in concept, but direct and forceful in execution.
GLIM SPANKY's music is often described as psychedelic rock or blues rock, with a sound reminiscent of 1960s and 1970s bands. Their primary influence is The Beatles, and other influences include The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Glay, Nirvana, Guns N' Roses, Oasis, and Cream. These references help define a style that feels vintage in texture while remaining firmly rooted in Japanese rock.
