Denki Groove

Denki Groove is a pioneering Japanese electronic music duo formed in 1989 by Takkyu Ishino and Pierre Taki in Shizuoka, Japan. The group emerged after the disbandment of their earlier project, ZIN-SÄY!, on April 26 of that year, and quickly developed a reputation for a playful yet forward-thinking approach to club-oriented music. Built around techno and house, Denki Groove became one of the most influential acts in Japan’s electronic scene by combining dancefloor energy with an unmistakable identity. Their sound helped define a broader appreciation for electronic music in Japan, and their work has remained closely associated with the evolution of the genre. The duo released their debut album, 662 BPM, in 1990, followed by their major-label debut, Flash Papa, in 1991. One of their best-known singles, "Shangri-La", became a major commercial success and sold over half a million copies, cementing their mainstream visibility while reinforcing their status as an important electronic act. After a prolific period, Denki Groove took a hiatus from 2001 to 2004 before returning with renewed creativity. Over the years, the duo has collaborated with several artists and contributed to the anime soundtrack scene, expanding their reach beyond club music and strengthening their legacy as a significant name in Japanese electronic music.
