Biography
THE CRO-MAGNONS are a Japanese rock band formed on 23 July 2006 by Hiroto Kōmoto, Masatoshi Mashima, Masaru Kobayashi, and Katsuji Kirita. Signed to Ariola Japan, the quartet has built its sound around j-rock, alternative rock, and pop punk, combining loud guitars, sharp hooks, and a direct live-performance approach. Their music has also been associated with anime openings, making the band a familiar name for listeners who follow both Japanese rock and anime songs.
Since their debut in 2006, THE CRO-MAGNONS have released several albums and remained a steady presence in Japan’s rock scene. Recent coverage has followed the band after they completed a nationwide 47-prefecture, 56-show tour, with a live album announced in connection with that run. They have also been announced for Hi-STANDARD’s AIR JAM 2026 lineup, scheduled for a live appearance with ZAZEN BOYS in Fukuoka, and booked for Morioka’s Ishigaki Music Festival. For fans looking for a long-running Japanese rock band tied to anime openings and a tough, hook-driven style, THE CRO-MAGNONS remain a key reference point.
