Biography

B'z is a Japanese rock duo formed in 1988 by guitarist-composer Tak Matsumoto and vocalist Koshi Inaba. Signed to Bertelsmann Music Group, the pair built their reputation on a sound that blends rock, hard rock, and J-rock with the melodic hooks and powerful vocals that made them one of Japan’s most successful and recognizable acts. From the start, B'z focused on muscular guitar work, arena-sized choruses, and polished songwriting that appealed to both rock listeners and mainstream audiences. Their catalog includes a long list of hit songs and bestselling releases, and that consistency has kept B'z at the center of Japanese popular music for decades. The duo is also closely tied to anime and other Japanese media through theme songs, which is why searches for B'z anime songs and B'z band information continue to lead listeners to their work. In recent years, they have remained active in anime music as well, including the theme song for Lupin the IIIrd the Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku and the new opening song for Detective Conan, "Heaven Knows." That connection to major anime franchises has helped introduce B'z to new audiences while reinforcing their status as a long-running Japanese rock duo with lasting impact.
