Barbee Boys

Barbee Boys are a Japanese rock band formed in 1983. Their lineup featured KONTA, Kyoko, Tomotaka Imamichi, ENRIQUE, and Ōji Abe, and they were associated with Epic Records Japan. Their sound combined new wave and pop rock with guitar-driven arrangements, and the contrast between male and female vocals was a defining feature. In November 1983, the band won the CBS・ソニーSDオーディション grand prize. They made their major debut on September 21, 1984 with the single "暗闇でDANCE" and became popular through the 1980s. Among the key milestones of that period were the April 1, 1987 single "女ぎつねon the Run", which was used in a 三ツ矢サイダー commercial, and a Tokyo Dome concert on August 22, 1988. On January 1, 1989, they released the single "目を閉じておいでよ", which reached No. 8 on the Oricon weekly chart and sold 168,000 copies. Barbee Boys held their last concert at Shibuya Public Hall on January 24, 1992 and disbanded. They later reunited for limited activities in 2003, 2008, 2009, and 2010, before resuming continuous activity in 2018. In 2019, they released PlanBee, their first new release in 29 years. They also performed "Makeru Monka", the ending theme for "Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!". Their official website is http://barbeeboys09.com/.
