Biography

Asriel was a Japanese gothic rock and symphonic metal duo active from 2006 to 2015, made up of composer and art director Keisuke Kurose and vocalist-lyricist Kokomi. Emerging from the vibrant doujin music scene, Asriel built a reputation through dark, atmospheric soundscapes, intricate arrangements, and a visual identity shaped by gothic lolita aesthetics. The duo’s sound combined aggressive guitar riffs with classical elements, creating a dramatic style that stood apart within Japanese independent music. Kokomi’s emotive vocal range and Kurose’s high-energy compositions gave the group a strong dramatic core, while their work consistently leaned into the tension between elegance and intensity. This balance helped define Asriel’s identity across their releases and reinforced their place in symphonic rock. Throughout their career, Asriel contributed numerous tracks to the visual novel and anime industries, expanding their reach beyond the doujin scene. Their most notable anime contribution was the ending theme "Metamorphose" for Tokyo ESP, a song that reflects the duo’s atmospheric approach and their ability to translate that style into anime music. Although Asriel officially disbanded in 2015, the duo remains significant among fans of early 2000s anisong and independent Japanese rock. Their discography shows a steady evolution in symphonic rock, and their work continues to represent a distinctive intersection between doujin culture and commercial media.
