Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha follows Wataru Sajou, a high school boy whose feelings for Aika Natsukawa have become the center of his daily life. He has spent so long chasing her that his repeated confessions and constant hope have started to feel less like romance than a habit he cannot break. Then, in a sudden moment of clarity, Wataru finally accepts the truth: Aika is not going to return his feelings, and holding onto a fantasy will only keep him from moving forward.
Once he pulls back, ordinary school life begins to look very different. Wataru spends more time with his friends and with other lovely girls, and the quiet space left behind by his one-sided devotion fills with new, unpredictable interactions. At the same time, Aika starts closing the distance in strangely suggestive ways, turning what seemed like a clean break into an awkward new situation. Caught between resignation and renewed temptation, Wataru has to decide whether he has truly given up on love, or whether he has simply stepped into another kind of confusion.
