World Is Dancing

World Is Dancing is set in 1374, when Japan is torn by the conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts and the Northern Court's shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, is rising as an ever more powerful figure. At the center is Oniyasha, the son of Kanami and heir to the Kanze troupe of sarugaku performers, who cannot stop asking himself why people dance. Sensitive, curious, and strikingly beautiful, Oniyasha is changed by an encounter with a dance that feels truly "good." That fleeting shock becomes the starting point for a path filled with laughter, tears, doubt, and self-confrontation. As he meets people who challenge and unsettle him, he is pushed to face the weaknesses that have kept his spirit clouded. Step by step, Oniyasha begins searching for a new form of dance—one that can answer his question, carry his feelings, and speak to a world defined by impermanence, political upheaval, and fleeting beauty.
