WIXOSS is set in a world where a popular card game opens the door to a far darker contest. The story begins with Ruuko Kominato, a quiet girl who receives a deck and discovers that one of her LRIGs—the avatar cards used in play—contains a girl trapped inside it. After meeting other players caught in the same situation, including Yuzuki Kurebayashi, Hitoe Uemura, Iona Urasoe, and Akira Aoi, Ruuko learns that she has become a Selector: one of the chosen girls drawn into a hidden version of WIXOSS where battles are fought for the chance to have their deepest desires granted. Behind that promise lies a cruel rule: if a Selector loses three times, her life will be destroyed.
From that premise, the franchise builds a psychological conflict around wish fulfillment, manipulation, and the bond between players and LRIGs. Ruuko and her newfound friends are pulled deeper into a web of lies and deceit as they try to uncover the secrets behind WIXOSS itself, and every match turns a pastime into a struggle over trust, resolve, and identity. Rather than treating the game as a simple competition, WIXOSS follows how its hidden system traps vulnerable girls and forces them to confront the price of what they want most. What begins as a game steadily becomes a choice that can damage friendships, reshape lives, and cost every participant everything she values.
