Kenja no Mago follows Shin Wolford, a Japanese salaryman who dies and is reborn in the kingdom of Earlshide. Taken in by the legendary mage Merlin Wolford and raised from infancy, Shin is trained in magic and martial arts until he becomes an overwhelming prodigy, though his greatest weakness is his complete lack of social awareness and common sense.
When Shin enters Earlshide's Magic Academy at 15, he hopes to learn how to live normally and make friends. Instead, his extraordinary abilities immediately draw the attention of classmates, nobles, and powerful figures in the capital. What should be an ordinary school experience keeps turning into incidents that can affect the peace of the kingdom, forcing him to deal with politics, danger, and public attention he never asked for. The series balances fantasy adventure, academy life, and comedy, using the contrast between Shin's immense power and his awkward upbringing to shape both the action and the humor. Merlin's unusual decision to raise him away from ordinary society also influences the way Shin approaches every new relationship.
