"Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!" follows Kazuhiro Kitase, who has been able since childhood to dream of a different world. In that world, he can return to reality by falling asleep or dying, and he can pick up where he left off by sleeping again. For years, those dreams have taken him on many adventures alongside Mariabelle, a beautiful elf who works for the Sorcery Guild.
During one of their escapades, they come across the lair of a dragon watching over its eggs, and the pair inadvertently wake the slumbering beast. The dragon promptly reduces them to ashes, but for Kazuhiro the setback is only temporary. When he comes back, he is shocked to find Mariabelle safe and sound asleep beside him, and he realizes that the world he has been visiting is not a dream at all, but an alternate reality.
With that truth in hand, Kazuhiro makes the most of the bizarre connection between worlds by introducing Mariabelle to the sights and wonders of Japan. As their time together continues across two worlds, their ordinary lives and fantastical adventures keep overlapping, and their real journey has only just begun.
