Walkure Romanze is set at Winford Academy in Helen's Hill, an old school where students train to become knights, perfect horseback riding, and treat jousting as a formal part of daily life. The academy runs on honor, competition, and the rigid roles that shape a knight's path, while begleiter act as assistants who support jousters in both training and matches.
The story centers on Takahiro Mizuno, a young man who once trained to be a knight and jouster himself. An injury forces him out of the knight program and into the begleiter program instead, but his animal-handling skills and his past experience as a jouster quickly make him a coveted assistant. At school, several beautiful girls want Takahiro to become their personal begleiter, yet he keeps turning them down.
His life changes when a bizarre accident leaves his friend, Mio Kisaki, challenged to a jousting duel even though she is not actually a knight. Takahiro agrees to stand in as her temporary begleiter, and that choice opens the door to their partnership as Mio enters the annual tournament.
