Uramichi Oniisan unfolds behind the bright smiles of the morning children's program "Together with Mama," where a group of exhausted adults must keep sounding cheerful, acting gentle, and entertaining a room full of preschoolers no matter how drained they feel. At the center is 31-year-old Uramichi Omota, a former gymnast whose polished on-air persona keeps cracking under the weight of his own bleak honesty. Even with the cameras rolling, he cannot stop dragging the children—and everyone around him—back to the harsher realities of adulthood, turning simple lessons and exercise segments into a deadpan comedy of frustration.
Behind the scenes, Uramichi's fragile routine is repeatedly disrupted by his two troublesome juniors, Tobikichi Usahara and Mitsuo Kumatani, who wear the show's rabbit and bear mascot costumes. The singing pair, Utano Tadano and Iketeru Daga, bring their own brand of adult misery to the set: Utano is a woman who only wants to get married, while Iketeru is a handsome man with a crass sense of humor. Between smoking, exercising, and relentless nihilistic outbursts, Uramichi keeps delivering bitter lessons about the not-so-moral side of grown-up life, and the contrast between the show's innocent tone and its worn-out staff gives the series its sharpest humor.
